About the Training:

The annual Women of Color Network Conference will feature local and national speakers on various topics of interest, including:

  • Media as a Site of Rape Culture and Racial Discrimination
  • Online Safety and Security
  • Hope in Hashtags: Engaging Communities of Color in Activism & Advocacy Panel

Guest speakers include:

  • Debjani Roy, the Deputy Director of Hollaback!, an international movement to raise awareness about and combat street harassment.
  • Soraya Chemaly, feminist writer, media critic and activist. She is a regular contributor to Salon, The Huffington Post, Ms. Magazine and CNN.
  • Kaofeng Lee, Deputy Director of Safety Net Project at the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV)

Through a variety of presentations, the Women of Color Conference will address the harmful and sometimes dangerous effects of popular media on our culture and ways in which social media can be harnessed as a vital tool of empowerment in combating rape culture and racial inequalities.
