NOW’s the year – NOW’s your chance to be a part of history!

It’s About Time – A Woman running for President in 2024!

We’re so excited about the prospects of a summer and fall of campaign work here in Maryland.  Maryland NOW has been planning for some months for a way to make a difference this fall with so many things at stake and up for a vote!

Question #1 – Constitutional Amendment (Ch. 245 of the 2023 Legislative Session) Declaration of Rights – Right to Reproductive Freedom

We have a legislatively referred consitutional amendment quesiton on the ballot which would add language to our state constitution protecting a woman’s right to make decision about her reproductive freedom.  The letter from the Secretary of State regarding the ballot language click here.

Maryland NOW sees the greatest challenge to passage of this question in Western Maryland and on our Eastern Shore. Additionall, we must work in North Central Maryland, and in Southern Maryland to get out a YES vote. We are planning to work with our chapters and contacts in these areas and help them do outreach at community and political events.

While We’re At It

Our National NOW PAC has endorsed Angela Alsobrooks for Maryland’s open U.S. Senate seat. She is campaigning around the state and we are also tracking her campaign appearances in these areas and to help our chapters attend to boost her candidacy, in addition to promoting Question #1.

Our First Woman President

We’re still in a bit of disbelief that we suddenly have the chance to elect the United States’ first woman president. Even in “blue states” like ours, we still have to work to get out every single vote for the Harris for President ticket. Again, we are connected to the Democratic Party’s calendar and will combine our state work with any events by national leaders who come to Maryland to promote the national ticket. Please stay tuned.

And . . .

For the first time in history, we also have two women running for congressional seats on the Democratic ticket – Sarah Elfreth in District 3 and April McClain Delaney in District 6. We’ll publish information on contacting their campaigns.
