In1973, an engineering job took Jerry Blum to Pittsburgh, PA where he soon joined the South Hills NOW chapter, which had been recently started by Ellie Smeal. Her husband Charlie and Jerry worked at the same laboratory. As a member of South Hills NOW Jerry served in a variety of positions including president & treasurer. Jerry also served as the treasurer and PAC treasurer of Pennsylvania NOW. He attended 28 consecutive national NOW conferences from 1976-2003 as a voting delegate. In 2004 Jerry moved down to the Washington metropolitan area and ended up in Prince George’s County, Maryland in 2012. As a member of Maryland NOW Jerry has served as state secretary (2019-2020) and state treasurer (2020-present). Jerry is a member of Northern Prince George’s County NOW.
Jerry grew up in SE Washington DC & Langley Park, MD. He did his undergrad study at Swarthmore and grad school at MIT, majoring in physics. Jerry then worked a few years planning exhibits for Boston’s Museum of Science and helping train salespeople for Tech HiFi, before the move to Pittsburgh in 1973 to take the engineering job, which lasted until 2003, when he retired. Jerry enjoys singing, contra & square dancing, classical music, and research of all kinds.
